I know a lot of people would like to take part in NaNoWriMo but find the concept of writing an entire novel to be too daunting. What I would like to propose is a workshop where, instead of a novel, the participants would each write a short story (1500 – 7500 words). The stories would be due by November 30th and would then be peer-edited by the group members in December.
This workshop would be open to speculative fiction from all ages and skill levels, but we would need at least six people to sign up before going ahead. If we get 10 or more, we could bundle the stories into a collection and give it away as a free ebook (cc-by-nd-nc 3.0). If you are interested in participating, please reply using the form below before November 1st.
UPDATE 10/31: Since it was mentioned on the Sword & Laser podcast, we’re going to accept new writers until November 4th so that anyone who hears about it there can still join. We have enough to go ahead, but could always use more.
By submitting this form you are agreeing to participate in this workshop and will attempt to conform to the deadline barring exceptional circumstances. You also acknowledge that you have read and accept the terms and conditions of NaNoWriMo and Foil & Phaser.
If you have specific questions, you may contact me by leaving a comment below (do not use the form for questions) or email me directly at foilandphaser@gmail.com

I know I don’t normally do reblogs, but I think this is an interesting NaNo alternative for people who prefer writing short fiction to novels. If you’re a writer, you should be writing this November in some shape or form. Why not try this workshop out?
We have the minimum amount to go forward with the workshop, but we can still use more. Stay tuned for more details.
